Prevention and causes of False Alarms
There are many ways false alarms can be triggered, and two main causes are user error, which include poor installation and setting/un-setting the alarm, and outside causes, which include:
- Radio Frequency Interference (RFI)
- Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)
- Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
- Draughts
- Mains spikes
- White light interference
Cables
Installers need to take care when stripping alarm cables, as cutting into the inner cores when stripping the outer sheath is very common. It is also important to not run cables under carpets that will be walked on, or across doorways. Carpet gripper around the perimeter of the room is also a huge problem. Running cables near hot surfaces will cause the plastic sheathing to degrade a lot more rapidly; therefore it is advised to keep cables away from radiators and hot water pipes.
