1. How often should my fire extinguishers be serviced?
If you have standard fire extinguishers that are water based these only need to be service every 5 years, unless they have been used as they will need to be re-filed and checked to make sure they are still in working order.
2. What are the minimum numbers of extinguishers that I need for my building?
UK Fire regulations state that you must have at least 2 extinguishers per floor for your building. These must also be class A fire extinguishers. Class A extinguishers are those that put out wood and paper-based fires. If your premises has more than one floor but is a small building then only one may be needed to make sure escape routes are not blocked.
3. What different type of fire extinguishers are there?

4. Where should I place my extinguishers?
Your fire extinguishers should be placed near to exits or your fire alarm call points. BS5306 states that they can also be up to 30 metres away from an exit if you have multiple exits in your building.
